Hurghada by Day

From famous international chains such as Hard Rock Café, to local favourites as the Papa’s Beach Club with their regular Dutch and British party live bands rocking the nights away, to informal and ultra-popular apres-dive outlets such as the Papa’s Dutch bars, cosy pubs and billiards bars, bowling centres, vibrant discos, karaoke nights, divers’ parties, quiz nights with prizes, foam parties, beach BBQ’s, trendy lounges, the day and nightlife of Hurghada is one to keep you awake until sunrise!

Wind & Kite Surfing: Hurghada is the Red Sea top destination for wind and kitesurf, and recently is also picking up as a great wake-boarding destination. Windsurfers were coming here before there was an international airport. Nowadays it is a well established resort for windsurfers, divers and sun worshippers with the airport only 10 minutes away, and a wide range of board sports schools are to be found in town.

Watersports: In addition to this, hotels and resorts in Hurghada offer a large choice of less extreme and more relaxed watersports and sea related activities, from banana rides to snorkelling excursions to the awesome marine park of Giftun Island, pedal boats, canoeing, catamarans, glass-bottom boats (~10euro) and submarines and parasailing.

Snorkelling: There's plenty of opportunity for snorkelling; the warm turquoise waters of the Red Sea teem with the rainbow hues of tropical fish and swaying corals with sightings of sharks, dolphins and turtles common in more open waters.

DIVING HOTSPOTS in Hurghada
Hurghada is one of the cheapest places in the world to pick up a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) qualification.
Amongst the numerous dive sites the marine park of Giftun Island is known as one of the best diving and snorkelling spots on the Red Sea. Other famous dive sites include Careless Reef, the Abu Nuhas reef also known as the 'Ships' Graveyard' containing no less than five accessible wrecks and Shab El Erg where dolphins are often seen.

DIVE SAFETY!

Careless Reef
This isolated Reef lies between Shaab Umm Qamar and Giftun Island and is known all over the world for its tame Moray Eels. However weather conditions often make it a near impossible spot to dive.

Giftun Seghir
This spectacular wall dive lies on the southern side of the Giftun Island. This spot is ideal for more experienced divers as the wall drops to a great depth which could be intimidating for a beginner.

Erg Abu Ramada
This small site on a group of coral pinnacles just offshore from Abu Ramada is an incredibly dense collection of the best in coral growth and reef fish. The fish in this area are brightly coloured and eye catching so make a good spot for beginners. However, barracuda sharks are often spotted so it is not for the faint hearted.

Even if you're not a diver you can still enjoy close up underwater encounters on a Sindbad Submarine ride. Descending to 22 metres the yellow submarine offers views of the coral reef, copious marine life and even an artificial sunken shipwreck - all from the comfort of your individual porthole in the main cabin.

Camel / Jeep Safaris: There are many ways to discover the beauty hidden in wadis and mountains. Whether by camel, 4x4 jeep or quads, desert safaris and day trips take you to unforgettable adventures, guaranteed to take your breath away.

Hiking and trekking in the desert is within range of everybody, provided that you go with experienced guides and follow their advice – most excursions to the desert include an easy walk accessible even to the less fit. Most desert trips include the visit to a typical Bedouin settlement, where you will be shown how this nomad people lives in harmony with its very harsh land.

GoKarts: For those who want to spend an adrenaline-filled afternoon, there are some exciting go kart rinks in town, with karts for all ages and evening sessions – ideal to close a lazy day by the beach!

Horse and camel riding is another favourite in Hurghada. For camel rides don't give more than 10LE (usually 2 LE will be enough). The slow pace and relaxing motion of the animals let you enjoy at best the stunning beauty of coast and desert. Horses and camels can be hired in most hotels – some of them have also specialised stables where you can learn or practise this ancient sport, with horses for beginners and for experienced riders.

Bowling: And if all this is too exciting, why not spend some time at the nice air-conditioned bowling club Ebb & Tide. Serving soft drinks and snacks, it makes for a fun filled afternoon with your friends.

Golf: A much sought-after activity in Hurghada is golfing, with two beautiful seaside golf courses at a short drive from town. Both offer lessons for adults and children alike – a great idea to spend a day with the family enjoying the greenery and the stunning landscapes of both clubs.

Shopping: Make sure you experience the local shops and bring yourself a souvenir home. The best buys in Hurghada are Papyrus or the traditional Egyptian 'shisha pipes. At just 5 hrs from the UK, you are just one short flight from paradise.
